Zambia’s US based stars miss China tournament

Zambia quartet Barbra Banda, Rachael Kundananji, Grace Chanda and Prisca Chilufya have been withdrawn from the Zambia squad to compete in the Yongchuan Women’s Tournament in China.

The players were withdrawn on the advice of American Zambia mission and key offices due to new travel restrictions introduced by the new administration in the USA.

In a statement from the FAZ general secretary Reuben Kamanga says acting on the advice of key offices among them the United States of America Zambian mission in Washington and the two clubs for the players; the best decision was to withdraw the players from the China assignment.

“I wish to confirm that the Orlando Pride trio of Barbra Banda, Grace Chanda and Prisca Chilufya as well as Rachael Kundananji of Bay FC will not be available for the two international friendly matches in China. After working through the process instigated by recently introduced measures it was decided that it is in the best interest of our players to skip this assignment,” he says.

“They will definitely be available for future assignments as they were for the last window when we played Malawi. The technical bench has since roped in replacements to ensure that the team remains competitive.”

He adds, “It is our desire to give all our teams participating in international competitions the best preparations. The bigger picture is to ensure that the Copper Queens are ready for the WAFCON in July just like we have done for the under-17 boys currently in Morocco for the AFCON.”

Malawi Stars miss out on Banyana Banyana friendlies

Temwa Chawinga, Tabitha Chawinga and Rose Kabzere will miss the friendly matches against South Africa after the association cancelled the invitation last week due to SAFA indicating the games would not proceed.

South Africa association is currently going through financial struggles.

Via Malawi association website Head coach Lovemore Fazili emphasized the importance of these games in preparing for the upcoming WAFCON qualifier against Angola.

“Every international friendly match is crucial for us. These matches will help us develop the team, and I truly appreciate the FA for organizing them. We have been lacking such preparation games, and they make a huge difference,” Fazili said.

Of course, it’s disappointing to miss some players who strengthen our team, but the locally based players are improving and gaining maturity. With the addition of some foreign-based players, we will build a strong team,” he added.
