Draw for the Fifa Women’s Under 20 World Cup in Costa Rica, how the 16 finalists qualified.

The draw has been made for the Fifa Women’s Under 20 World Cup to be held in Costa Rica with very intriguing groups.

In Group A host Costa Rica will face Australia who qualified after North Korea withdrew from the tournament. Current 2018 Fifa Women’s Under 17 Champions Spain and Conmebol champion Brasil complete the group. Spain where semi finalists in the 2019 uefa women’s under 19 championships losing to France 3-1 aet. Brasil Qualify as current Conmebol Women’s under 20 champions recently contested in Chile.

Group B consist of Germany, Colombia, New Zealand and Mexico.

Germany qualified based on the last played Uefa tournament, Colombia where runners up in the recently played Conmebol Women’s under 20 championship, New Zealand where OFCs choice as its tournament was cancelled and Mexico where recent runners up in the Concacaf Women’s Under 20 Championship.

Group C paired France, Nigeria, Canada and South Korea. While Group D saw Japan Netherlands Ghana and USA grouped together.

France as other European countries in the tournament where chosen based on the last played Uefa women’s under 19 championships in 2019. France won the tournament defeating Germany 2-1 in the final. Nigeria qualified defeating Senegal in the final qualifying round. South Korea finished third in the AFC Women’s Under 19 championships in 2019 defeating fourth placed Australia 9-1.

Japan where the AFC Women’s Under 19 championship winners in 2019 defeating North Korea in the final 2-1, they also beat Australia 7-0 in the semi final. Netherlands were semi finalists in the Uefa Women’s Under 19 tournament in 2019 losing to Germany 3-1. Ghana ensured their qualification defeating Ethiopia 5-1 on aggregate and the USA enter the tournament as defending Concacaf Women’s Under 20 champions defeating Mexico 2-0 in the final played on March 12.

The tournament will commence on August 10th with the final on August 28th.
